Aqua UV Advantage 2000 Hanger 8 Watt UV Sterilizer — UV Hang-On-Back for Aquariums up to 70 Gallons

The Aqua Ultraviolet Advantage 2000 Hanger 8 Watt ultraviolet sterilizer is a compact hang-on-back model designed for small marine aquariums, nano ponds, and quarantine tanks. It installs in minutes: the outlet hanger hangs directly over the rim of the aquarium or sump (accommodates frames up to 1 inch thick), and the 1/2" barbed inlet connects to any 1/2" flexible tubing. No rigid plumbing is required.

The 8-watt germicidal UV lamp emits 254 nm radiation that destroys the DNA and RNA of single-celled organisms, preventing their reproduction. The Advantage series' streamlined housing maximizes contact time for a 99.9% kill rate. Flow rates are calculated at 30,000 µw/cm² at the end of the lamp's life (14 months), so no flow rate adjustment is needed during the entire lamp life. The translucent blue cap allows visual confirmation that the lamp is on without exposure to UV-C rays.

Use in Reef Aquarium

For a reef aquarium with corals and live rock, use this sterilizer at a flow rate corresponding to 30,000 or 45,000 µw/cm² to preserve the planktonic food necessary for corals. The Advantage 2000 8W is ideal for nano reefs up to 70 gallons, quarantine tanks, and frag tanks during events and coral swaps.

Quick Installation

The Advantage 2000 Hanger installs in minutes without tools or rigid plumbing. The outlet hanger hangs over the rim of the aquarium or sump, and the 1/2" barbed inlet connects directly to the tubing of a small pump. It is the simplest solution for adding a UV sterilizer to an existing system. The unit is not submersible and is suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Aqua Ultraviolet recommends changing the lamp after 14 months of continuous use and cleaning the quartz sleeve regularly. In saltwater, clean the quartz sleeve more frequently to prevent salt deposits.

Warranty

Limited lifetime warranty on the housing, 1 year on the complete unit, and 12-month pro-rated warranty on the lamp (quartz sleeve is excluded from the warranty).

Included in the Box

Housing with hanger, transformer, 8W UV lamp, quartz sleeve, and 1/2" barbed elbow — ready for installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Aqua UV Advantage 2000 8W UV sterilizer suitable for a nano reef?

Yes, the Advantage 2000 8W is ideal for nano reefs and marine aquariums up to 70 gallons. Its hang-on-back format installs in minutes without rigid plumbing. It is also perfect for quarantine tanks and frag tanks during events.

What is the difference between the Advantage 2000 and the Classic series from Aqua Ultraviolet?

The Advantage 2000 is a compact hang-on-back model with a 1/2" barbed inlet, designed for quick installation without rigid plumbing. The Classic series uses 2" or 3/4" slip fittings with unions and integrates directly into the sump's plumbing. The Advantage is ideal for small systems and quarantine, while the Classic is suitable for larger capacity aquariums.

How often should I change the UV lamp on the Advantage 2000 8W?

Aqua Ultraviolet recommends replacing the lamp after 14 months of continuous use. This is the longest lamp life in the industry. The published flow rates are calculated at the end of the lamp's life, so no adjustment is required during this period.
