The false personnifer angelfish, also known as the blue mask angelfish, has an unusual, almost blistered body, which is usually black. The face is blue-green, and males have a speckled yellow face. A yellow spot covers the forehead, and the caudal fin is also yellow and divided by a blue-green stripe. This is one of the few angelfish species where males differ morphologically from females. In this case, males have a slightly longer body than females.
A 180 gallon or larger aquarium with ample amounts of live rock should be provided. Not being good reef dwellers, the personifer angelfish tends to nibble on stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles.

The diet should consist of spirulina, seaweed, high-quality angelfish preparations, frozen mysis or shrimp, and other meat-based foods.
