Polkadotted , Operculate hermit Crab ( phimochirus operculatus )

The Polkadotted Operculate Hermit Crab ( Phimochirus operculatus ) is a Caribbean hermit crab with legs adorned with characteristic round spots. Its distinguishing feature is a calcareous operculum that hermetically seals the entrance to its shell. Small to medium size — ideal for nano-reefs.

His role in the baccalaureate

A versatile consumer of filamentous algae, cyanobacteria, and detritus. Its small size allows it access to narrow spaces inaccessible to larger cleaners.

Recommended conditions

• Temperature: 23–27°C — Salinity: 1.023–1.026
• pH: 7.8–8.4 (normal natural day/night fluctuation in a reef tank)
• Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH — Suitable for tanks of 50L and above
• Empty spare shells are mandatory.

Behavior

Discreet and peaceful. Compatible with virtually all reef inhabitants. Active day and night.
