The Red Sea ReefSense Leak Detector is probably the best peace-of-mind-per-dollar sensor in the whole ReefControl range: placed on the floor or at the bottom of the cabinet, it sends an alert to your phone at the first drops of water — before the puddle becomes water damage. Against the cost of a warped floor or a neighbour's ceiling, it is one of the cheapest protections in the hobby.

How it works

The detector plugs into a ReefSense port on a ReefControl Lite or Pro — like any probe in the range, on any port. The moment its contacts touch water, the alert fires in ReefBeat. Paired with a ReefControl Power 8, the system can go further: automatically shutting off a pump to stop the leak at its source. It wall-mounts or lies flat, in the places water always ends up: under the sump, behind the cabinet, below the plumbing fittings.

Does the leak detector work on its own?

No — it plugs into a ReefControl Lite or Pro controller, which sends the alert through ReefBeat.

Can it stop the leak, not just warn me?

The alert works with a Lite or Pro alone. To automatically cut a faulty pump, the system needs to control the outlet — that is the ReefControl Power 8's job.

Where should I place it?

At the lowest point water would reach if something went wrong: the cabinet floor under the sump is the classic. With several detectors on a Pro, you can also cover the RO reservoir and the mixing station.

Does it need maintenance?

No — no calibration, no wear parts. Wipe it dry if it has done its job, and it goes back on duty.
