Cadenati Pagurists (Scarlet Hermit Crab)

The Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab ( Paguristes cadenati ) is prized for its vibrant red to deep scarlet color and its effectiveness as a cleaner. Native to the Caribbean, its larger size compared to the Red-legged Hermit Crab allows it to tackle tougher algae.

His role in the baccalaureate

Excellent consumer of filamentous algae, cyanobacteria and organic waste. Stirs up the substrate by moving around to oxygenate the sand.

Recommended conditions

• Temperature: 23–27°C — Salinity: 1.023–1.026
• pH: 7.8–8.4 (normal natural day/night fluctuation in a reef tank)
• Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH — Calcium: 380–430 ppm
• Empty spare shells are mandatory.

Dosage

1 per 8–10L for active algal control.
