Hydra Edge Hanging Kit — Cable Suspension, No Adapter Needed 44HD/68HD - AquaIllumination

$71.95

Indisponible

The Hydra Edge Hanging Kit suspends your Hydra Edge 44HD or 68HD from the ceiling. AquaIllumination describes it as an elegant solution to single light suspension.

And it has one advantage the other options don't.

The Only Edge Mount That Needs No Adapter

Here's what most people find out too late: the Hydra Edge doesn't attach directly to HMS hardware. Because of its edge mounts and pivoting capability, it needs a size-specific adapter kit — one more part, one more purchase, one more chance to order wrong.

In AquaIllumination's official mounting guide, the Edge Hanging Kit is the only one marked "All Included", for both the 44HD and the 68HD.

How you mount your EdgeWhat you have to buy
HMS Single Armthe arm + an adapter bracket
Multi-light rail2 arm kit + rail + rail brackets + one adapter per fixture
HMS suspensionHMS Hanging Kit + rail + one adapter per fixture
Hybrid with BladesHMS Hanging Kit + rail + an adapter
Edge Hanging Kitnothing else — it's all in the box

One box, one order, it works. It's the shortest path between your fixture and your tank.

What Suspension Gets You

Your tank rim stays clear. Nothing in the way when you reach into the water or run a magnet across the glass. On a clean rimless build, it's often the only mount that respects the look.

The other advantage: you pick the height. AquaIllumination states the Hydra Edge 44HD and 68HD are designed to cover roughly 30 x 30in. when mounted at 9in. or less above the water. With a suspension, you tune that height instead of living with whatever a rigid mount dictates.

Fits Both 44HD and 68HD

The same kit serves both fixtures. That's another difference from the adapter brackets, which are size-specific: one for the 44HD, a different one for the 68HD. Here there's no choice to make and no mistake to make.

Worth noting especially if you have a 68HD: the Hydra Flex Arm isn't an option for that model per AquaIllumination's official guide. The Edge Hanging Kit works with both.

Before You Choose Suspension

One practical point the spec sheets skip: you have to drill your ceiling. That assumes solid structure above the tank, and an aquarium that isn't moving. If you're renting, or your tank might shift across the room, the HMS Single Arm with bracket will give you less grief — it travels with the tank.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Edge Hanging Kit need an adapter bracket?

No, and that's its main advantage. In AquaIllumination's official mounting guide, the Edge Hanging Kit is the only one marked "All Included" for both the 44HD and 68HD. Every other mounting route — HMS Single Arm, multi-light rail, HMS suspension, hybrid — requires an additional adapter kit, one per fixture.

Does the Edge Hanging Kit work with both the 44HD and 68HD?

Yes, the same kit serves both. That's useful to know if you have a 68HD: the Hydra Flex Arm isn't an option for that model per AquaIllumination's official guide, while this hanging kit works.

How high should you hang a Hydra Edge above the water?

AquaIllumination states the Hydra Edge 44HD and 68HD are designed to cover roughly 30 x 30in. when mounted at 9in. or less above the water. The higher you go, the wider the light spreads and the lower the PAR. The advantage of suspension is being able to experiment.

Do you have to drill the ceiling?

Yes. The kit fastens to the ceiling and the fixture hangs from the cables. Make sure you have solid structure above the tank. If you're renting or your aquarium might move, the HMS Single Arm with its adapter bracket is simpler — it clamps to the tank and travels with it.
