Live Copepod – 500ml Bottle of Live Zooplankton for Reef Aquarium
Available
This live zooplankton culture has been developed for modern reef aquariums where biological stability is a key factor, especially in new systems or overly sterile tanks.
🧬 Living composition:
Apocyclops panamensis, Tisbe biminensis, Tigriopus californicus, rotifers.
🔬 Superior quality scientific production
Each batch is produced by specialists trained in chemistry and biology, using a rigorous scientific approach. The water is prepared from custom-formulated chemical solutions and then sterilized. Key parameters are continuously monitored and adjusted to ensure viability and biological performance throughout the production process.
⚖️ Biological stability and natural control of dinoflagellates
The regular addition of live plankton supports the overall stability of the system. Copepods quickly occupy the available biological space, consume some of the undesirable microorganisms, and compete directly with dinoflagellates for nutrients, which helps prevent or limit dino problems, common in tanks that are too clean or poor in microfauna.
🌿 Important recommendation: feeding with phytoplankton
For optimal results, feed the aquarium daily with phytoplankton. Regular feeding allows copepods to reproduce actively, maintain a dense and sustainable population, support reef balance, and reduce the risk of microbial imbalances.
🌟 Benefits and why add live copepods
Live copepods and rotifers enhance biodiversity and establish an active microfauna essential to the reef:
-
Continuous live food for several planktivorous fish and microfauna
-
A more stable, complete and resilient ecosystem (particularly in a new tank)
-
Participation in biological “cleaning” (fine organic matter and undesirable microorganisms)
-
Improved microbiological balance by occupying the available biological space
-
Permanent establishment in the rocks and the refuge through reproduction
✅ Ideal for: new reef aquariums; tanks that are too sterile or lack microfauna; natural prevention/management of dinoflagellates; feeding of microfauna (indirect support for corals and planktivorous fish).
📋 Instructions for use (safe seeding method)
🏠 Storage: Room temperature. Keep the cap open for oxygenation. Add phytoplankton as needed to maintain a very pale green/yellow-green color and help keep the copepods alive.
⚙️ Preparation: stop mechanical filtration (roller mats, filter socks, fine mechanical filters) before introduction, as they can capture or eliminate copepods before implantation.
🌡️ Acclimation: float the bottle to equalize the temperature; ideally introduce in the evening or at night to reduce immediate predation.
🪸 Introduction and colonization: once the temperature has equalized, wedge the bottle in the rocks or in a refuge; open the cap to allow the copepods to come out on their own and naturally colonize the aquarium.
