Hikari Bio-Pure frozen rotifers come in 1.75 oz (50 g) mini cubes. This is the smallest prey in the whole range: the manufacturer describes a near-microscopic animal 0.1 to 0.5 mm in size, one of the smallest inhabitants of most bodies of water.

The smallest mouthful in the tank

Hikari intends rotifers for most reef environments and for newborn fish that need an extremely small nutrient source. It describes material that helps complete the circle of life in a reef environment: the rotifer also feeds zooplankton, which in turn feeds the rest.

By size, the range reads like this: rotifers at 0.1–0.5 mm, then Cyclopod+ (Oithona similis copepods), then baby brine shrimp. If your corals do not react to one size, try the next one up.

How to feed it

• In a reef tank: twice daily.
• For fry: as many times per day as possible; smaller, more frequent feedings, up to ten times a day, work best.

Remove whatever is left uneaten once the feeding period ends. Hikari repeats it on every sheet: live or frozen food can spoil a fish to the point where it refuses its formulated diet. Feed it for variety, not as a replacement for complete nutrition.

On omegas — what the manufacturer does not quantify

DHA oil and EPA oil do appear in the ingredient list, right after rotifers and water. But Hikari publishes no guaranteed omega minimum for this product, unlike Cyclopod+ and baby brine shrimp, where both values are printed.
