Red Sea R40607 Bubble Trap Sponge — Circulation Pump Replacement Sponge for MAX NANO G2 XL

The Red Sea R40607 is the original bubble trap sponge of the MAX NANO G2 XL. Sitting in the circulation pump chamber at the bottom of the rear sump, it pre-filters the water and keeps air bubbles from reaching the pump inlet.

Installation and maintenance

According to the Red Sea manual, once the pump is in place, push the sponge into the pump chamber with its slit lined up with the flexible hose. If air gets trapped inside the sponge, remove it, rinse it and put it back in the sump.

Red Sea's warranty excludes sponges as wear items, so replacing them is part of normal reef tank maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my pump blowing micro-bubbles into the tank?

Red Sea recommends checking the sump water level, then removing the sponge, rinsing it and putting it back: air can build up inside it.
