The Red Sea REEFER Peninsula S-950 G3 is the largest peninsula reef tank in the Red Sea lineup: a 200 cm (78.7") aquarium that sits perpendicular to a wall and divides the room, with two full-length viewing panes. With 947 L (250.2 US gal) of total system water and complete REEF-SPEC infrastructure, this is the platform for a large reef aquarium — and the only model in the range that ships with a two-part sump.

Before the numbers, watch how the ReefATO+ keeps a REEFER system topped off — filmed right here at the store:

Weight, floor load and clearances

The Red Sea series manual publishes the numbers almost nobody else does. Fully loaded, the complete system weighs 1460 kg (3219 lb): the flooring directly below the aquarium must be rated for that load. The glass tank alone weighs 251 kg (553 lb) — that is a team lift, not a two-person job. The top of the cabinet sits 100 cm (40") from the floor. Red Sea recommends 10 cm (4") of clearance behind the system and 60 cm (24") between one side and any adjacent wall or furniture, for cable access and reaching the rear of the tank. And one absolute rule: a REEFER is never moved with water in it.

The split sump — exclusive to the S-950

This is what sets the S-950 apart from every other Peninsula: Red Sea ships it with a unique two-part sump system. The main sump is refugium-ready, with a skimmer chamber you can set at different heights, plus micron filter bags and media cups. The extension sump is yours to define: a frag tank, an oversized refugium, or an extra stage of filtration. Unhook it from the main sump entirely and it becomes an R/O reservoir or a water-change station. On a 947 L (250.2 US gal) system, that flexibility changes how you build your filtration.

Euro-brace construction and 19 mm glass

The S-950 carries a jet-black Euro-brace framing the top of the tank, completed by a bottom brace — a construction shared only by the Peninsula S-700 and S-950 in this range. The low-iron ultra-clear glass is 19 mm (0.75") thick on every pane. Across a 200 cm (78.7") span viewed from both sides, that combination is what holds the line.

Aluminum cabinet and slide-out control panel

The marine-spec S-series cabinet is built on a robust aluminum super structure with replaceable exterior panels and concealed adjustable feet that let you level the system precisely on any floor. The included slide-out control panel 60 makes it simple to mount and reach your controllers and other gear — the cabinet interior is black. A practical Peninsula detail: the cabinet doors can be installed on the left or right side, whichever gives you the best access to your sump.

Plumbing: ReefGate, silent downflow and side returns

Like every G3, the S-950 gets the ReefGate, a high-precision valve on the drain line that lets you dial in the flow until the plumbing runs near silent. The G3's optimized piping keeps flow strong across the entire 200 cm (78.7") length, and the two side-mounted return nozzles are curved to spread the water evenly from end to end. The surface skimmer feeds the downflow continuously, and the sump accepts a ReefMat without modification thanks to its removable mechanical filtration compartment.

What is included — and what is not

Included: the tank, the aluminum-structure cabinet, the main sump and its extension sump, complete plumbing with the ReefGate, the ReefATO+ kit (top-off control, temperature monitoring and leak detection) and the slide-out control panel 60. Not included — like every REEFER, you pick your own gear: the return pump (Red Sea recommends the ReefRun G2 12000, 5000-12000 lph / 1300-3200 gph), the lighting (the Deluxe configuration calls for 4 x ReefLED G2 170), circulation (Red Sea's published MAX configuration uses 2 x ReefWave 45), the protein skimmer (RSK DC 900 in the MAX configuration) and the ReefMat 1200 for automatic mechanical filtration.

Two things nobody plans for before delivery day

The top-off reservoir is not included: Red Sea states it plainly in the series manual — the ReefATO+ needs a reservoir, and the ReefCan is built for exactly that. That reservoir gets filled with RO water: on a 947 L (250.2 US gal) system, an RO unit is not a luxury, it is a prerequisite. On an open-top tank, fish can jump — true of every brand, not a Red Sea flaw. Order the Net Cover at the same time as the tank, not after finding one on the floor.

Too big for your space? The Peninsula S-700 G3 offers the same S-series construction at 151 cm (59.4"), and the Peninsula 500 G3 brings the peninsula concept down to 125 cm (49.2").

Our advice

"The Peninsula S-950 is the dream of a guy like me: probably one of the most beautiful aquariums out there — the finish is impeccable. It takes a real budget, but it's the masterpiece of a home, a centerpiece that becomes a true attraction. It's a marvel. If you can afford it, go for it — just don't forget to plan the manpower to move it and set it up." — Stéphane, ReefSolution

Warranty

The REEFER Peninsula S-950 G3 comes with a standard 3-year warranty. Register your system with Red Sea within 90 days of purchase and receive 2 more years — 5 years total, at no extra cost. Canada is among the countries eligible for the extended warranty.

Why buy from ReefSolution

Aquarium ReefSolution is an authorized Red Sea dealer in Canada: full manufacturer warranty, pricing in line with the Canadian market, and real after-sale support. When you buy a REEFER from us, that's where we come in: we support you in building the best system for your expectations and your budget — we tell you what to buy, and what not to buy — and we walk you through starting up a system of this scale instead of leaving you alone with the crates. We ship anywhere in Canada at a flat 100 $ rate. Freight moves LTL: the truck drops the crate outside, and that is all — delivery does not include carrying the aquarium inside or setting it up, so have your labour on site that day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Peninsula S-950 and the Peninsula S-700?

Size and the sump. The S-950 is 200 cm (78.7") long with 947 L (250.2 US gal) total; the S-700 is 151 cm (59.4") with 705 L (186.2 US gal). Both share 19 mm glass, the Euro-brace with bottom brace, the aluminum structure and the control panel 60 — but only the S-950 ships with the two-part split sump.

Are the return pump and protein skimmer included with the S-950?

No. Like every REEFER, the S-950 comes ready for the equipment of your choice: the ReefATO+ and the slide-out control panel 60 are included, but the return pump (Red Sea recommends the ReefRun G2 12000), lighting, circulation and skimmer are chosen separately.

What is the extension sump on the S-950 for?

Red Sea designs it for four uses: a frag tank, an oversized refugium, an extra stage of filtration, or — once unhooked from the main sump — an R/O reservoir or a water-change station.

How much weight does the floor need to support?

Red Sea publishes a total loaded weight of 1460 kg (3219 lb) for the PS-950 G3. The flooring directly below the system must be rated for that load, and the system must never be moved with water in it.
