Hikari Bio-Pure frozen tubifex worms come in a 3.5 oz (100 g) cube pack. This is the smallest worm in the range: Hikari describes it as a size almost any little fish can readily consume and digest.

The small worm — the opposite of jumbo

Hikari intends tubifex for most freshwater fish, especially livebearers, smaller cichlids and discus, plus selected aquatic reptiles. This is the size to reach for when the mouth is small.

At the other end of the range, jumbo blood worms target big carnivores: eels, larger discus, American cichlids. In between, regular blood worms cover four pack sizes.

Like every worm in the range, tubifex is a freshwater food: the manufacturer names no marine species.

Tubifex worms, water, vitamin B12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (stabilized vitamin C), riboflavin (vitamin B2), thiamine mononitrate, biotin, choline chloride, folic acid, calcium pantothenate, inositol, niacin.

How to feed it

Feed no more than your fish will consume within 30 to 45 seconds, and no more than twice daily. Remove whatever is left once the feeding period ends.

Hikari repeats it on every sheet: live or frozen food can spoil a fish to the point where it refuses its formulated diet. Feed it for variety, not as a replacement for complete nutrition.

Manufacturer warning: handling frozen food derived from a live animal can cause the same allergic reaction as handling the live animal itself. Wash your hands thoroughly immediately after use and before any contact with your nose, eyes or mouth. Always avoid contact with open wounds.

Regular blood worms target most freshwater environments with limited marine use, and jumbo is reserved for big carnivores. On the analysis side: tubifex runs min. 3% protein at max. 93% moisture.

Is tubifex suitable for a saltwater aquarium?

The manufacturer names only freshwater fish and selected aquatic reptiles. For a marine tank, brine shrimp or mysis are the better fit.
