The thick felt traps debris throughout the full depth of its wall, making it a very effective catch for everyday particles. When your water gets very clean and you are after perfect clarity, step down to the 100 micron felt sock; for a new setup or right after heavy maintenance, the 225 micron thin-mesh sock is easier to clean.

Always run the finest mesh you can put up with. The finer it is, the more it filters — but the faster it clogs. Personally, I prefer the 100 micron and I clean it often.
