Red Sea Thin-Mesh Filter Sock 225 Micron 4 in x 10.5 in — Easy to Clean

$23.99

Available

The Red Sea 225 micron thin-mesh filter sock is the heavy-duty cleaner of the range: according to Red Sea, it is perfect for new setups and right after heavy maintenance, whenever the water carries a lot of particulate matter. Its monofilament construction makes it very easy to clean — and it is now the sock supplied with REEFER and MAX-S systems.

Monofilament mesh: easy cleaning, two jobs

Red Sea offers three reusable 10.5 in (26 cm) filter socks, all built on the standard 4 in (10 cm) ring of REEFER and MAX-S aquariums — and of any standard 4 in holder. The 225 micron thin-mesh has a second talent felt does not: Red Sea also recommends it as a holder for other mechanical or chemical filter media. For everyday duty, the 225 micron felt sock traps debris throughout the depth of its wall, and for final polishing of a mature tank, the 100 micron felt sock takes over.

Our advice

Always run the finest mesh you can put up with. The finer it is, the more it filters — but the faster it clogs. Personally, I prefer the 100 micron and I clean it often. If frequent maintenance is not your thing, this 225 will let you breathe longer between cleanings. And if you are done with filter socks altogether, a ReefMat does the job more effectively than any sock. — Stéphane, Aquarium ReefSolution

Frequently asked questions

Why choose thin-mesh over felt?

The monofilament mesh cleans far more easily than felt — a real advantage when the sock fills up fast, as it does in a new tank or after heavy maintenance. Felt, on the other hand, traps particles throughout the thickness of its wall and remains Red Sea's everyday choice.

Can it hold carbon or resins?

Yes: Red Sea states the 225 micron thin-mesh sock is also suitable as a holder for other mechanical or chemical filter media, on top of its filter sock duty.

Does it fit my REEFER aquarium?

Yes: these 10.5 in (26 cm) socks are designed for Red Sea REEFER and MAX-S systems — it is the model now supplied with them — and fit any standard 4 in (10 cm) holder.
