Nero 3 — Nano 2000 GPH Bluetooth Circulation Pump - AquaIllumination

$269.99

Available

The AquaIllumination Nero 3 is the compact version of the popular Nero 5, designed specifically for nano reef tanks and aquariums from 2.5 to 60+ gallons. With a true 2,000 GPH (7,570 LPH) output in a form factor nearly half the size of the Nero 5, it punches well above its class. Its innovative reverse propeller design produces a wide, gentle current that moves detritus without blasting corals directly.

Key Benefits

  • True 2,000 GPH output in an ultra-compact form factor — only 1.4 in. (35.6 mm) of depth
  • Bluetooth LE control via Mobius or myAI app — no Wi-Fi hub required
  • 5 built-in flow modes: Constant, Pulse, Random, Schedule and Feed
  • MXM compatible for control through Neptune Apex and Apex Fusion
  • Nero Guard included to protect slow-moving fish and invertebrates
  • Perfect as a secondary pump in larger tanks paired with a Nero 5 or Nero 7

Reef Tank Application

The Nero 3 is the ideal choice for nano reefs where every inch counts. Its small form factor virtually disappears inside the aquarium while eliminating dead spots. In Random mode, it simulates a high-energy reef environment by randomly varying its flow rate. Pulse mode creates waves to lift settled detritus from hard-to-reach areas. Feed mode pauses the pump for 10 minutes for target feeding — just hold the controller button for 2 to 5 seconds. For larger aquariums, use two Nero 3 pumps in opposition with the Phase feature to create dynamic, alternating water movement.

Installation and Mounting

The magnetic mounting system installs in under a minute and works with glass up to 0.5 in. (13 mm) thick. The pump angle adjusts 15° in all directions to direct flow exactly where your tank needs it. The integrated single-button controller allows speed changes, mode switching and Feed mode activation without a smartphone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Nero 3 powerful enough for a 50-gallon reef tank?

Yes. The Nero 3 delivers 2,000 GPH, which is sufficient for tanks up to 60+ gallons according to AquaIllumination. For tanks with demanding SPS corals requiring intense flow, consider the Nero 5 at 3,000 GPH.

Is the Nero 3 pump compatible with Neptune Apex?

Yes. The Nero 3 is MXM compatible, allowing full control through Neptune Apex and Apex Fusion. AquaIllumination, EcoTech Marine and Neptune Systems developed the MXM protocol together.

Can you use two Nero 3 pumps together in the same tank?

Yes. The Mobius and myAI apps support the Phase feature which synchronizes or alternates flow between multiple Nero pumps. Two Nero 3 pumps in a 180° configuration create dynamic water movement ideal for corals.
