Live Ocellaris Clownfish — Captive Bred

The Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) is one of the most popular marine fish for reef aquariums. Recognizable by its vibrant orange color and three black-bordered white bands, it is robust, peaceful, and perfect for aquariums of all levels. All our specimens are captive bred — hardier, better adapted to aquarium life, and ethically responsible.

Characteristics

  • Scientific Name: Amphiprion ocellaris
  • Adult Size: 8–11 cm
  • Natural Origin: Indo-Pacific, Andaman, Moluccas, Northwest Australia
  • Source: Captive bred
  • Difficulty Level: Beginner to intermediate
  • Temperament: Peaceful
  • Minimum Aquarium: 75 liters

Ecology and Behavior

In the wild, the Ocellaris lives in symbiosis with Heteractis magnifica, Stichodactyla gigantea, and Stichodactyla mertensii anemones. In an aquarium, an anemone host is not required — our captive-bred specimens adapt very well without one. If an anemone is present, the clownfish will naturally host in it. It can also host in some soft corals as a substitute.

Like all clownfish, the Ocellaris is a sequential hermaphrodite: the largest individual in the group becomes the breeding female, the next largest becomes the male. Tolerant in groups, it generally coexists well with invertebrates and corals.

Diet

Our specimens have been weaned to accept aquarium pellets and flakes. They also accept frozen invertebrates: ocean plankton, Mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped squid.

Compatibility

Excellent choice for a community reef aquarium. Compatible with most corals, invertebrates, and other peaceful fish. Avoid with aggressive or territorial species.

Why choose captive bred?

  • More disease resistant than wild-caught specimens
  • Already accustomed to aquarium water and prepared foods
  • Faster acclimatization and higher survival rate
  • Ethical and sustainable choice for reef conservation
