The Camel Shrimp ( Rhynchocinetes durbanensis ), also known as the Dancing Shrimp, is an Indo-Pacific shrimp recognizable by its curved posture, large, prominent red eyes, and red and white bands. Its lively, jerky gait has earned it its nickname.

Warning: Camel Shrimp are NOT entirely reef-safe — they can pinch and damage soft corals and zoanthids. Not recommended for reef tanks with valuable corals.

Recommended conditions

  • Temperature: 23–27°C — Salinity: 1.023–1.026
  • pH: 7.8–8.4 (normal natural day/night fluctuation in a reef tank)
  • Minimum volume: 80L — Numerous rock cavities

Behavior

Primarily nocturnal. Lives in groups in caves. Best suited for a FOWLR tank. Feed regularly to reduce the risk of predation on corals.
