This magnificent dwarf angelfish is a red-orange gem for the reef aquarium. Hardy and relatively easy to keep, it brings a splash of vibrant color and activity, although its behavior towards corals should be monitored.
Key features
- Difficulty level: Moderate (due to its reef compatibility and temperament).
- Adult size: Up to 10 cm.
- Temperament: Semi-aggressive and territorial, especially towards other dwarf angels.
- Minimum volume: 114 liters (30 gallons), but 265 liters (70 gallons) or more is recommended for greater stability and to reduce conflicts.
Aquarium conditions
- Temperature: 24-27 °C.
- Salinity: 1.020–1.025.
- pH: 8.1–8.4.
- Décor: An aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding places is crucial. A lid is essential, as it can jump out.
- Health: It is susceptible to skin diseases (such as white spots) if stressed. Quarantine of new specimens is recommended.
Food
- Type: Omnivore, with a preference for algae.
- Diet: A varied diet is essential. Offer dried seaweed (nori), spirulina, and fortified frozen foods such as mysis shrimp. Grazing on live rock is important for its health.
- Frequency: 2 to 3 times per day.
Compatibility and behavior
- In reef tanks: Considered "reef tank with caution". It may occasionally nip the mantles of giant clams, soft corals and some LPS corals, especially if it is not fed sufficiently.
- Keeping with other dwarf angelfish: Avoid keeping them with other dwarf angelfish, except in very large aquariums with plenty of rocks to create separate territories. They are generally compatible with similarly sized fish, but they may intimidate smaller ones.
- Introduction: It is best to introduce it last to minimize territoriality problems.
