Net Cover Replacement Spline 8 m — Rubber Cord That Locks the Mesh - Red Sea

The Red Sea Net Cover spline is the rubber cord that locks the mesh into the groove of the aluminum frame. Red Sea designates it (S) — for spline — and sells it in an 8 metre (26 foot) roll.

What it does

Without the spline the netting simply doesn't hold: pressed in over the mesh, into the channel of the profile, it is what puts the whole thing under tension and stops it pulling back out. Every Net Cover kit already includes some: 4 m on the 60x60 and 90x60 cm formats, 6 m on the 120x80 cm, 8 m on the 150x80 and 180x80 cm.

You buy this roll when the original spline has hardened over the years, when you cut it too short on a first build, or when you re-tension the mesh after moving the tank.

Our advice

Take your time. The Net Cover is a cut-it-yourself kit: go slowly. It goes together well, but it doesn't go together fast. And before you cut anything, watch the tutorial all the way through — everything is shown in it.

The spline is the step where patience pays off. Press it in gradually, working the slack out as you go, never all at once along the whole length.

How much spline do I need?

It depends on your frame's perimeter. Original kits carry between 4 and 8 m depending on size. The 8 m roll covers Red Sea's largest format in full.

Can the old spline be reused?

Often yes, if it's still supple. A hardened or deformed spline no longer holds tension properly — that's when to replace it.

Do I need the roller to install it?

That's the tool it's designed for. Every complete Net Cover kit includes one; if yours went missing, it's sold separately.
