Red Sea Aquarium Net Cover — DIY Jump-Proof Mesh Screen for Open-Top Aquariums

Dimension

The Red Sea Aquarium Net Cover is Red Sea's official customizable screen top: an extra-strong aluminum frame and 8 mm (5/16") thin-strand transparent netting that keep your fish in the tank without ruining the look of an open-top reef. The kit is cut to size — profiles to trim, corners to assemble — and mounts on the rim or inside the rim, your choice.

A low-profile top that disappears on the tank

With its sleek profile and minimalist hangers, the cover blends in even on ultra-clear rimless glass. Every kit includes the components for one custom cut-out around a piece of equipment (overflow, light arm, auto-feeder), the spline roller, and the rubber spline that locks the netting into the frame.

Five sizes to cover the whole lineup

  • 24 x 24" (60 x 60 cm) — R42080: REEFER 170 and 200 (G3 and G2), MAX NANO, Desktop, REEFER Nano
  • 36 x 24" (90 x 60 cm) — R42081: REEFER 250 and 300, Peninsula 350, MAX NANO G2 XXL, MAX E-260
  • 48 x 31" (120 x 80 cm) — R42082: REEFER 350 and 425, S-550, Peninsula 500, MAX S-400 and S-500
  • 60 x 31" (150 x 80 cm) — R42083: REEFER 525 and 625, S-700, Peninsula S-700, MAX S-650
  • 72 x 31" (180 x 80 cm) — R42084: first-generation REEFER XXL 750 and Peninsula 650

Red Sea publishes a precise cutting guide for every tank model, and some large systems combine several kits. Note: Red Sea states that the measurements in its manual apply to first-generation (G1) REEFER systems, and that updated measurements for the G2+ range will be published later. If you have a G2+, write to us with your exact model and we'll confirm the right size and required accessories before you order.

Our advice

The problem with net covers is that people always wait until they've found a fish or two on the floor before buying one. As soon as you keep species that jump — gobies, wrasses, and there are plenty of others — ask us at the shop: we'll tell you. Get yourself a top. It's not a question of "if" it will happen, it's "when". You love those fish, we love them too — and too often they turn up missing, or dried out on the floor in the morning.

And when you install it: take your time. Go slowly. It goes together well, but it doesn't go together fast. Watch the tutorial all the way through before you cut the first profile.

A DIY project, plain and simple

Red Sea says it openly: this cover delivers the customization of a made-to-measure top at a fraction of the price, but it calls for real DIY skills — planning, exact measurements and cutting aluminum profiles. If that's not your kind of project, ask a handy friend, or drop by the shop in Laval.

Complementary products

The Net Cover hanging clips add anchor points to the frame, the universal cut-out kit allows one more equipment pass-through, and the Zig-Zag 15/40 mm kit works around LED mounting brackets. If a cut goes wrong or a part wears out, the replacement netting and replacement spline are sold separately.

Frequently asked questions

Which Red Sea net cover fits my aquarium?

Each size covers a family of tanks — see the list above. Recent REEFER models also use a Zig-Zag or cut-out kit depending on the lighting installed. When in doubt, write to us with your exact tank model.

Does assembly require tools?

Yes. This is a cut-to-size kit: you measure, cut the aluminum profiles to length, assemble the corners, then press the netting in with the included spline roller. The official tutorial above walks through every step.

Does the cover work on rimless aquariums?

Yes — Red Sea designed it first and foremost for rimless open-top tanks, and it also works on braced tanks like the MAX S series. The 8 mm transparent netting stays discreet once installed.
