The Red Sea Net Cover universal cut-out kit lets you route the screen top around a large rim-mounted piece of equipment — a skimmer, an overflow box, a reactor. Where the Zig-Zag kit steps around a slim light arm, this one opens a full rectangular cut-out in the frame.

Our advice

Take your time. The Net Cover is a cut-it-yourself kit: go slowly. It goes together well, but it doesn't go together fast. And before you cut anything, watch the tutorial all the way through — everything is shown in it.

A cut-out gets measured twice and cut once. This is the part of the build where a mistake costs you a profile.

Check before ordering

Red Sea states that the measurements published in its manual apply to first-generation (G1) REEFER systems, and that G2+ figures will be published later. If you have a G2+, write to us with your exact tank model and the equipment you need to clear — we'll check it with you before you cut.

This kit fits the Red Sea Aquarium Net Cover. For a plain LED arm, the Zig-Zag 15/40 mm kit is enough and costs less. After a cut-out the mesh usually needs re-tensioning: the replacement spline and the spline roller are sold separately.

How is this different from the Zig-Zag kit?

The Zig-Zag steps around a slim obstacle — a 15 mm or 40 mm light arm — by offsetting the edge of the cover. The universal cut-out kit opens a full rectangular pass-through, with its own corners, for bulky equipment like a skimmer or an overflow.

Doesn't my Net Cover kit already include one?

Yes, one. Every complete kit includes the components for a single custom cut-out. This separate kit is for making another.

Do I need special tools?

You need something that cuts an aluminum profile cleanly to length. Red Sea prescribes no specific tool — if you see a brand or model recommended elsewhere, it doesn't come from the manufacturer.
