AF90 fluidised media reactor for nano and small reef tanks

The Aquaforest AF90 Media Reactor 1300 ml is the compact reactor in the AF Reactor line, built for nano tanks and small reef systems up to about 150 L (40 US gal). The 1300 ml capacity matches the carbon or GFO dose of a small tank without oversizing. Acrylic body 90 mm, 31 cm tall, 13 cm base — fits inside a tight sump chamber or beside an all-in-one nano.

What the AF90 brings to a small reef system

  • 1300 ml capacity — the right carbon or GFO dose for a nano tank.
  • Clear acrylic body to watch the fluidisation.
  • Compact footprint — only 31 cm tall.
  • 16 mm fittings that pair with small DC pumps and nano manifolds.
  • Removable top and bottom screens for fast media swaps.

Compatible media

  • Activated carbon — for crystal-clear water and dissolved organics removal.
  • GFO — to control phosphate on a nano SPS reef.
  • Zeolite — probiotic method in a compact format.
  • Biopellets at gentle flow — requires an appropriate feed pump.

Specifications

  • Media capacity: 1300 ml (44 fl oz)
  • Height: 31 cm (12.2 in)
  • Body diameter: 90 mm (3.5 in)
  • Base diameter: 13 cm (5.1 in)
  • Fittings: 16 mm (5/8 in)
  • Body material: acrylic
  • Recommended tank volume: up to ~150 L (40 US gal)

Installation

  • Feed with a small DC pump or a return-line branch from a nano's return pump.
  • Trim flow with a ball valve — media should tumble gently.
  • Rinse GFO before use to keep fines out of the display.
  • Change media regularly (carbon every 3-4 weeks, GFO every 4-6 weeks).

Frequently asked questions

Is the AF90 the right reactor for a nano reef tank?

Yes — that is exactly its target. 1300 ml of media covers most nano systems up to about 150 L (40 US gal).

What pump should I use with the AF90 Media Reactor?

A small DC pump (500-1500 L/h) or a return-line branch with a trim valve is enough to fluidise 1300 ml of media.

What is the difference between the AF90 and the AF110?

The AF90 (1300 ml, 16 mm) suits nano and small tanks; the AF110 (2800 ml, 20 mm) takes over on mid-size reefs up to 400 L.
