Aquaforest AF Air Scrubber Hose 1 m — 10 mm silicone for reef air scrubber

The AF Air Scrubber Hose 1 m is the 10 mm flexible silicone hose specifically built to connect the AF Air Scrubber to the reef skimmer's air intake. Food-grade silicone resistant to humidity, temperature swings, and the compounds absorbed by conditioned air (aerosols, cooking oils). 1 m long — enough for most setups where the scrubber sits right next to the skimmer.

Sold separately from the AF Air Scrubber reactor so each setup can pick the length matching its sump geometry. Standard 10 mm fitting model compatible with most reef skimmers on the market.

Hose characteristics

  • Material: flexible food-grade silicone.
  • Inner diameter: 10 mm — matches AF Air Scrubber intake and most reef skimmers.
  • Length: 1 m — cuttable to the exact required length.
  • Chemical compatibility: resistant to brackish vapor and compounds absorbed by the Air Scrubber media.
  • Flexibility: stays flexible at low room temperature to prevent micro-leaks.

Typical setup

  • Remove the original skimmer hose (often too short or rigid PVC).
  • Cut the 10 mm silicone hose to the exact length between skimmer and scrubber.
  • Insert each end firmly — the soft silicone provides a seal without a clamp.
  • Check for tight kinks that would restrict airflow.
  • Periodically check flexibility — replace if the hose hardens over time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a standard silicone hose instead?

Technically yes — a 10 mm inner-diameter food-grade silicone hose works. The Aquaforest hose has the advantage of being calibrated to the AF Air Scrubber fitting and chemically tested against absorber media vapor. A low-quality generic hose may stiffen or release plasticizers into the drawn air.

What length should I pick for my setup?

1 m covers nearly every setup where the scrubber sits next to the skimmer. If sump geometry needs more, two hoses can be joined end-to-end with a 10 mm coupling. Avoid lengths past 1.5-2 m which raise airflow resistance and may affect skimming.

Does the hose need frequent replacement?

No — well maintained, silicone hose lasts several years. Periodically check flexibility and visual cleanliness. A hose turning yellow, stiff, or showing micro-cracks should be replaced to preserve scrubber seal and efficiency.
