Aquaforest Calcium Test Pro — fast calcium test with 55-65 measurements for reef

The Calcium Test Pro measures the calcium (Ca²⁺) concentration in marine and reef water by colorimetric titration. Aquaforest recipe certified by ICP-OES to deliver reliable precision across the useful hobby range — typically 300-500 ppm. Used to drive Ca Plus dosing, Component A, classic Balling, or to validate parameters after a water change.

Each kit contains enough reagent for about 55 to 65 measurements. Resolution enough to tell 10 ppm steps apart between two readings, enabling precise reef macro management.

Using the Calcium Test Pro

  • Frequency: weekly on a stable tank, two to three times a week when starting dosing.
  • Timing: wait 5-6 h after a Ca dose for a representative reading.
  • Procedure: titrate until the color change of the indicator reagent.
  • Resolution: about 10 ppm — enough to drive reef stability.

Calcium targets by livestock

  • High-growth SPS tanks: 420-440 ppm.
  • Mixed-reef and LPS tanks: 400-450 ppm.
  • Soft coral tanks: 380-420 ppm.
  • Aquaforest tolerated range: 380-460 ppm.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Calcium Pro test sensitive to interference?

It's calibrated for marine water at 33-35 ppt salinity. On a sample taken right after a heavy calcium dose or right after a water change, let it rest 5-6 h before testing to avoid erratic readings tied to non-homogenized local concentrations.

Can I use the test on freshwater?

No — the Calcium Test Pro is formulated for marine water. To test calcium hardness in freshwater, dedicated tests exist (mainly dGH) using different indicators.

How many measurements before restocking?

About 55 to 65 measurements depending on sample calcium concentration. On a stable tank around 420 ppm running weekly tests, a kit covers about a year — well within reagent shelf life.
