Aquaforest KH Plus 250 ml — fast liquid alkalinity solution for reef tanks
The KH Plus 250 ml is Aquaforest's standard liquid alkalinity (dKH) solution. Formulated from soluble alkaline salts, it quickly lifts KH on a reef tank without introducing competing calcium or magnesium. Used to correct a fast alkalinity drop, dose daily on a Ca+ / KH+ / Mg+ managed tank, or complement a light Balling regimen.
The 250 ml format fits nano reefs and tanks up to 200 L with moderate consumption. Aquaforest specifies that correction speed must never exceed 0.5 dKH per 24 h — alkalinity stability outranks speed.
When to use KH Plus
- Fast KH drop — gradual return to the 7-9 dKH (SPS) or 8-11 dKH (LPS) target.
- Add-on to separate Ca dosing — Ca+ / KH+ / Mg+ / Reef Mineral Salt method.
- Nano reef where full Balling is overkill.
- Water-change-managed tank — top-up between changes.
Aquaforest official dosing
- Starting dose: 5 ml per 27 US gal (100 L) of tank water per day.
- Measurable effect: 10 ml in 100 L raises alkalinity by about 0.5 dKH.
- Maximum dose: 10 ml per 100 L per day.
- Maximum rate: never raise dKH by more than 0.5 in 24 h.
- Add zone: in a high-flow area to prevent local precipitation with calcium ions.

Frequently asked questions
Why not exceed 0.5 dKH per 24 h?
Too fast an alkalinity lift destabilizes the tank's carbonate-calcium balance, with risk of abiotic calcium carbonate precipitation — water turns cloudy, parameters become unstable, and corals suffer osmotic stress. Aquaforest recommends patience: several days of gradual lift beat a single spike.
Can I dose KH Plus at the same time as Ca Plus?
Yes, but never at the same dosing point or at the same time — direct contact between the two concentrated solutions triggers immediate calcium carbonate precipitation. Space at least 15-30 minutes apart and dose in two opposite zones of the tank.
How long does a 250 ml bottle last on a 100 L tank?
At the 5 ml/day starting dose, the 250 ml bottle covers 50 days (about 1.7 months). At the 10 ml/day max, duration drops to 25 days.
