Blue Macaw Zoanthid – Midnight Blue Polyp & Neon Green Ring

As flamboyant as the bird it's named after, the Blue Macaw Zoanthid is one of the most dramatic morphs in the reefing hobby. Its deep blue-purple oral disk is encircled by a dazzling neon green ring that pulses under actinic lighting like a beacon from the abyssal depths. In a dense colony, the effect is stunning — dozens of luminous eyes peering into your aquarium from the reef bed.

Features

  • Color: Deep blue-purple oral disk, dazzling neon green inner ring, brownish-purple tentacles
  • Shape: Well-developed round polyps, typical of Zoanthus
  • Growth: Colonial — spreads gradually over the substrate
  • Fluorescence: Extremely high — the neon green ring glows intensely under blue/actinic lighting

Recommended Parameters

  • Lighting: Moderate (PAR 50–150) — adapts well to different intensities
  • Flow: Low to moderate, indirect
  • Temperature: 24–27 °C
  • Salinity: 1.024–1.026
  • Difficulty Level: Beginner — very hardy and easy to maintain

Placement

Place this Zoanthid on the substrate or on a low rock, in an area with moderate flow. It gradually colonizes its environment and can be easily fragged to share with other enthusiasts. Avoid direct contact with aggressive corals.

⚠️ Note: Zoanthids can contain palytoxin. Handle with gloves and avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes.
