Chrysiptera Parasema (Yellowtail Damselfish)

This small damselfish is highly prized for its vibrant colors and hardiness, making it an excellent fish for beginners. Despite its semi-aggressive temperament, it is more tolerant than other damselfish and integrates well into many reef aquariums.

Key features
  • Difficulty level: Easy.
  • Adult size: Up to 7.5 cm.
  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive, territorial (especially with its conspecifics).
  • Minimum volume: 75 liters (20 gallons). A volume of 120 liters (30 gallons) is preferable for a group.

Aquarium conditions
  • Temperature: 24-28 °C.
  • Salinity: 1.020–1.025.
  • pH: 8.0–8.4.
  • Décor: An aquarium with lots of live rock providing many hiding places to feel safe.
  • Health: Extremely robust and disease-resistant, making it a good choice for new tanks.

Food
  • Type: Omnivore.
  • Diet: Easily accepts a varied diet, including flake food, pellets, enriched frozen meat food (mysis, artemia) and seaweed-based preparations.
  • Frequency: 2 to 3 small portions per day.

Compatibility and behavior
  • In reef aquariums: Considered safe for corals and most invertebrates.
  • Compatibility: May harass smaller, more timid fish, as well as other damselfish. In a sufficiently large tank, it can coexist with semi-aggressive fish. It is best to introduce it after the other inhabitants.
  • Socialization: Can be kept alone or in small groups (odd number) in an appropriately sized tank, with plenty of space and hiding places to reduce aggression.
