Why Garlic Works on Fish

Seachem research has shown that many fish species are naturally attracted to the scent of garlic. The sulfur compounds in garlic—allicin, ajoene, and diallyl polysulfides—act as powerful food attractants capable of triggering the feeding reflex even in the most reluctant fish. Vitamin C supports connective tissue production, wound repair, and growth—functions essential for convalescent or acclimation fish.

Fish that are difficult to feed

Angelfish, surgeonfish, lionfish, mandarins—some marine species consistently refuse to eat in captivity, especially during initial acclimation. Simply soaking their food in GarlicGuard before feeding is often enough to transform a reluctant fish into an active eater within a few days.

Acclimation of new specimens

The stress of transport and adapting to a new environment often inhibits feeding behavior during the first few days. Using GarlicGuard with every feeding during the acclimation period increases the chances that the fish will resume feeding quickly, thus reducing stress and boosting its immunity at the most critical time.

Support during drug treatments

GarlicGuard is compatible with medicated foods and helps attract sick fish to the treated food.
