Turbo snail

Turbo snails ( Turbo spp.) are among the most efficient, robust, and reliable algae cleaners in a reef aquarium. Their large, conical shell, powerful, muscular foot, and insatiable appetite for algae make them top-notch workers in any serious reef cleaning pack.

His role in the baccalaureate

Surface grazers par excellence — methodically scrape glass, rocks and decorations, removing filamentous green algae, encrusting algae, brown diatoms and unwanted coralline algae.

Recommended conditions

• Temperature: 22–26°C — Critical point: prolonged exposure above 27°C increases mortality
• Salinity: 1.023–1.026 — pH: 7.8–8.4 (normal natural day/night fluctuation in a reef tank)
• Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH — Calcium: 380–450 ppm — Minimum volume: 100L

Behavior

Active day and night. Can fall on their backs — intervene quickly. Tend to escape from the litter box without a lid.

Recommended dosage

1 per 40–50L during the establishment phase. 1 per 80–100L for regular maintenance.
