Maintenance guide:
1. Aquarium size and configuration:
• Recommended volume: Minimum 100 litres.
• Lighting: Moderate to bright light. Use quality LED strips to bring out their colours.
• Location: Choose an area of the tank with a weak current, to avoid damaging their fragile tissues.
2. Water parameters:
• Temperature: 24–27°C.
• Salinity: 1.024–1.026 (specific gravity).
• pH: 7.8–8.4.
• Calcium: 400–450 ppm.
• Alkalinity: 7–10 dKH.
• Magnesium: 1200–1400 ppm.
3. Food:
• Although Welsophyllia are primarily photosynthetic thanks to their zooxanthellae, they appreciate supplementary foods.
• Feed them once or twice a week with:
• Frozen plankton.
• Protein-enriched powdered food.
• Small pieces of shrimp or brine shrimp.
4. Compatibility and cohabitation:
• Reef compatible: Yes, but be careful about the living space.
• Protect them from aggressive or fast-growing corals.
• Avoid herbivorous fish like surgeonfish, which might nibble on their tissues.
5. Growth and maintenance:
• Slow growth, but robust with proper care.
• Clean the polyps regularly to prevent the accumulation of debris.
• Maintain good water quality with weekly 10% water changes.
6. Signs of good health:
• Swollen and colorful polyps.
• No white areas or necrotic tissue.
7. Special precautions:
• Avoid touching soft tissues with your hands.
• Do not expose them to sudden changes in water parameters.
