Fascinating Behavior

Blennies have unique personalities! They perch on rocks and observe the aquarium with their big, expressive eyes. They hop from rock to rock and defend their territory with playful poses. Some species (Meiacanthus) have venomous fangs for defense.

Maintenance Requirements

• Minimum aquarium size - 10-30 gallons depending on the species
• Living rocks - With cavities to hide in
• Algae - Herbivores graze constantly
• Food - Algae, spirulina, mysis, herbivore pellets
• Lid - Can jump out of the water
• Compatibility - Only one blenny per aquarium (they are territorial with each other)

Advice

Acclimate slowly over 1-2 hours. Herbivorous blennies (Lawnmower, Starry) are excellent for controlling filamentous algae. Feed twice a day. Perfect for beginners. Avoid keeping multiple blennies together unless the aquarium is very large (100+ gallons).
