Silicone Lubricant 10 ml — Aquarium O-Ring and Gasket Grease - Aquaforest
Available
Aquaforest Silicone Lubricant 10 ml — reef reactor and pump joint lubricant
The Silicone Lubricant 10 ml is Aquaforest's silicone lubricant, formulated to preserve and ease the operation of O-rings, impellers, and moving parts on reef aquarium equipment. A simple 10 ml tube covers several months of preventive maintenance on a standard reef system — powerheads, skimmers, media reactors, dosers.
Pure silicone recipe with no additives that could contaminate reef water. Compatible with all reef elastomer joints (EPDM, silicone, nitrile).
Silicone Lubricant use
- O-rings — apply a thin coat before reassembly to preserve seal integrity.
- Pump impellers — smooth rotation and prevent premature wear.
- Plastic threads — reactor caps, plumbing connectors.
- Doser and meter parts — preserve fluid movement on peristaltic pumps.
Application best practices
- Clean and dry the joint before applying.
- Apply a very thin coat — excess doesn't help efficacy and can disperse into the water.
- Renew at each disassembly-reassembly.
- Avoid mineral oils and non-aquarium lubricants that contaminate the water.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a 10 ml tube last?
A 10 ml tube covers dozens of one-off applications on a standard reef system's joints. In practice, a tube lasts 1-3 years on a home tank with regular maintenance. On a pro multi-tank installation with frequent servicing, duration drops to 6-12 months.
Can I use Silicone Lubricant on PVC plumbing joints?
Yes — perfect for PVC seal joints on sump or return plumbing. Just don't use on solvent PVC cements (incompatible) — the lubricant works on socket joints with elastomer rings, not on chemically welded joints.
Is there a risk of water contamination?
No at recommended amounts — Aquaforest's pure silicone recipe is inert on reef water. Dispersed excess can temporarily create a slight surface oil film, quickly cleared by the skimmer. Avoid excessive use to preserve water quality.
