AquaticLife RO Buddie — 5-Micron Inline Sediment Replacement Cartridge Stage 1 RO/DI
Available
The AquaticLife RO Buddie Sediment Cartridge is the stage 1 replacement for AquaticLife's RO Buddie systems. It captures sand, silt, rust and solid particles down to 5 microns before the water reaches the carbon and RO membrane. It is the first line of defense that protects downstream stages. Unlike Twist-In cartridges, it uses an inline design with 1/4 in. FPT female threads on each end, which makes it compatible with several RO brands.

Wide Compatibility (AquaticLife Recommendation)
This cartridge is one of the few AquaticLife consumables with confirmed multi-brand compatibility. It fits:
- AquaticLife 540016 - RO Buddie 50 GPD 3-Stage RO
- AquaticLife 540017 - RO Buddie 100 GPD 3-Stage RO
- AquaticLife 540019 - RO Buddie +DI 50 GPD 4-Stage RO/DI
- APEC (RO and RO/DI models)
- Geekpure (RO and RO/DI models)
- LiquaGen (RO and RO/DI models)
It does NOT work with Twist-In systems (540370, 540371, 540372, 540346), which use a proprietary format cartridge (Item 330377).
Operating Conditions
- Minimum water pressure: 35 psi.
- Maximum pressure: 80 psi.
- Minimum temperature: 3.9 degrees C (39 degrees F).
- Maximum temperature: 37.8 degrees C (100 degrees F).
Replacement Frequency
AquaticLife recommends replacing the sediment cartridge every 3 to 6 months or after about 1,500 gallons of water treated, whichever comes first. Incoming water with a high sediment load shortens cartridge life. The translucent housing lets you visually check for fouling.
Monitor Your System with a TDS Meter
A TDS meter measures Total Dissolved Solids in the water, expressed in ppm (parts per million). On an RO/DI system, it lets you continuously monitor each stage's performance and catch a saturated cartridge or a declining membrane early. A dual in-line monitor like the HM Digital DM-1 is a great fit for a compact RO Buddie system: it displays source and DI outlet TDS at the same time, enough to validate the system's performance without taking up extra space.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should the RO Buddie sediment cartridge be replaced?
AquaticLife recommends replacing it every 3 to 6 months or after 1,500 gallons of water treated, whichever comes first. A translucent housing turning dark is a visual sign that it's time to swap.
Is cartridge 330249 compatible with non-AquaticLife RO systems?
Yes. AquaticLife confirms compatibility with APEC, Geekpure and LiquaGen systems in addition to RO Buddie models 540016, 540017 and 540019. The inline design with standard 1/4 in. FPT female threads makes this flexibility possible.
Does it work with Twist-In systems?
No. Twist-In systems (540370, 540371, 540372, 540346) use a proprietary quarter-turn sediment cartridge (Item 330377). The 330249 is inline only.
Can the sediment cartridge be rinsed and reused?
No. Trapped particles are embedded in the spun polypropylene structure and cannot be flushed out by rinsing. Backwashing could even release contaminants into the product water. Replace it entirely.
