AquaticLife Twist-In — 5-Micron Carbon Block Replacement Cartridge Stage 2 RO/DI Aquarium

$17.99

Available

The AquaticLife Twist-In Carbon Block Cartridge is the stage 2 replacement for AquaticLife's Twist-In RO/DI systems. Built with a 5-micron solid carbon block, it reduces chlorine by up to 99% and conditions the water before it reaches the RO membrane. Without this stage, tap water chlorine damages the polyamide RO membrane, shortens its life and allows more contaminants into the product water.

Twist-In Installation Video (Official AquaticLife Channel)

The following video from the official AquaticLife YouTube channel shows how to install Twist-In cartridges in a quarter turn, without any tool.

Technical Specifications

  • Filter media: solid activated carbon block.
  • Filtration: 5 microns.
  • Main function: reduces chlorine by up to 99% and conditions water before the RO membrane (per manufacturer).
  • Twist-In format: quarter-turn install, no tools.
  • AquaticLife item: 330379.

Strict Compatibility (AquaticLife Recommendation)

This cartridge is designed exclusively for AquaticLife Twist-In systems, which are:

  • 540371 - Twist-In 100 GPD 4-Stage RO/DI
  • 540372 - Twist-In 75 GPD 4-Stage RO/DI
  • 540370 - Twist-In 75 GPD 3-Stage RO
  • 540346 - Twist-In 100 GPD 3-Stage RO

It does NOT work with other AquaticLife systems: not the Classic RO/DI (which uses standard 10-inch screw-in cartridges), and not the RO Buddie (which uses proprietary 330249/330250/330242 cartridges).

Operating Conditions

  • Minimum water pressure: 35 psi.
  • Suggested pressure: 65 psi.
  • Maximum pressure: 80 psi.
  • Optimal water temperature: 25 degrees C (77 degrees F).

Replacement Frequency

AquaticLife recommends replacing the carbon block cartridge every 6 months. Past that point, chlorine adsorption capacity drops quickly and the RO membrane starts to take damage. Replace as a precaution even if the cartridge appears normal from the outside: activated carbon wears out chemically, not visually.

Monitor Your System with a TDS Meter

A TDS meter does not measure chlorine directly, but it detects the indirect damage a saturated carbon cartridge causes to the RO membrane. When the carbon runs out, chlorine attacks the polyamide RO membrane and the TDS rejection rate drops quickly. A triple in-line monitor like the HM Digital TRM-1 displays source, RO outlet and DI outlet TDS at the same time, so you can anticipate damage before it is too late for the membrane.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a carbon cartridge essential in an RO/DI system?

Activated carbon removes chlorine and chloramines from tap water, which would chemically damage the polyamide RO membrane. Without carbon, the RO membrane wears out quickly and lets more contaminants through into the product water.

How often should the Twist-In carbon block cartridge be replaced?

AquaticLife recommends replacement every 6 months. Unlike the sediment cartridge, activated carbon wears out chemically without any visible change: replace it even if the cartridge looks "clean".

Does cartridge 330379 fit the Classic RO/DI or the RO Buddie?

No. AquaticLife states it is compatible only with Twist-In systems (models 540370, 540371, 540372, 540346). The Classic uses standard 10-inch screw-in cartridges and the RO Buddie uses its own proprietary cartridges.

What exactly does the carbon block reduce?

According to AquaticLife, the Twist-In carbon block cartridge reduces tap water chlorine by up to 99% and conditions the water before the RO membrane. It also helps improve the taste and odor of the water.
