The Bumble Bee Snail ( Engina sp. ), also known as the Bumble Bee Snail, is an attractive little marine snail with distinctive yellow and black stripes reminiscent of a bumblebee. This helpful invertebrate is an excellent addition to your reef aquarium's cleaning team.

Distinctive appearance: This charming snail sports a conical shell adorned with alternating spiral bands of bright yellow and deep black, creating a bumblebee-like pattern. Its small size (1-2 cm) and vibrant colors make it both a decorative and functional addition.

  • Diet: Carnivore/detritivore - feeds primarily on polychaete worms, detritus, and food scraps. May supplement with small pieces of shrimp or fish if necessary.
  • Aquarium: Prefers a sandy substrate for burrowing. Live rock for exploration.
  • Behavior: Active, constantly explores the substrate and rocks in search of food

Compatibility:

  • In reef aquariums: Fully compatible with corals and most invertebrates
  • Cohabitation: Peaceful with fish and other invertebrates. Avoid with large predatory crabs or snail-eating fish (triggerfish, etc.).
  • Role: Excellent member of the cleaning team, particularly effective against harmful worms
