High Quality Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) Cartridge – 10" x 2.5"
Available
High-quality granular activated carbon (GAC) cartridge – 10" x 2.5"
Granular activated carbon (GAC) cartridge designed to effectively remove chlorine, odors, bad tastes, and organic contaminants before they reach the RO/DI membrane. Essential for any reverse osmosis system intended for reef aquariums or ultrapure water production.
📏 Specifications
- Dimensions: 10" x 2.5"
- Type: Granulated activated carbon (GAC)
- Compatibility: Standard 10-inch RO/DI cases
🎯 Main function
This cartridge is a critical step in your RO/DI pre-filtration.
Granulated activated charcoal offers:
- Effective removal of free chlorine
- Chloramine reduction (depending on system configuration)
- Capture of dissolved organic compounds
- Odor reduction and taste improvement
- Direct protection of the RO membrane
Chlorine is the number one enemy of RO membranes. A GAC cartridge in good condition protects your expensive membrane and significantly extends its lifespan.
🔬 Why add a GAC cartridge to a carbon block rather than using two carbon blocks?
Many believe that adding two carbon block cartridges is superior. In reality, combining GAC + carbon block is often more effective .
1️⃣ Media Complementarity
GAC has a large, rapid adsorption surface area to absorb chlorine and a wide range of organic contaminants.
The carbon block then acts as a finer and denser filtration system.
Two carbon blocks = two identical media.
GAC + carbon block = two complementary types of adsorption.
2️⃣ Better membrane protection
GAC absorbs a large portion of the initial chemical charge.
The carbon block completes the filtration process before the RO membrane.
The membrane therefore works under better conditions.
3️⃣ Less pressure loss
Two carbon blocks can reduce the flow rate and increase the pressure drop.
A GAC followed by a carbon block maintains a better flow/performance balance.
4️⃣ Smarter Maintenance
In a GAC + carbon block combination:
- The GAC absorbs the main load
- The block finishes the job
- We replace according to the actual wear and tear
It makes more sense than duplicating a single type of cartridge.
✅ Advantages
- High-quality premium activated charcoal
- Large contact area
- Maximum RO membrane protection
- Compatible with reef RO/DI systems
- Excellent performance/cost ratio
- Ideal for stage 1 or 2 of filtration
🔄 Recommended replacement
Every 6 to 12 months, depending on:
- Volume of water produced
- Incoming water quality
- Municipal chlorine level
Regular replacement is crucial to protect your RO membrane and maintain stable, pure water for your reef aquarium.
💧 Ideal use
- RO/DI systems for reef aquariums
- Osmosis water production
- Pre-filtration before RO membrane
- Upgrading an existing system
