Seachem Purigen 250 ml résine filtration organique aquarium récifal

Purigen 250 ml — 500% More Effective Organic Resin | Seachem

$27.99

Available

Seachem Purigen 250 ml is a synthetic macroporous adsorption resin that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity exceeding all competing products by more than 500%. Specifically designed as an organic recovery resin, it selectively targets nitrogenous organic waste to control ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates at the source. The 250 ml format treats up to 1000 L (250 US gallons) for up to six months, making it ideal for medium-sized reef and marine aquariums.

Main advantages

  • Organic adsorption capacity exceeding that of competing products by more than 500%
  • Spherical and macro-porous macroreticular polymer — increased usable surface area compared to standard resins
  • 250 ml treats up to 1000 L (250 US gallons) for a maximum duration of six months
  • Minimal impact on trace elements — significantly increases redox potential
  • Regenerable with bleach — visual indicator of depletion (light blonde → dark brown)

Use in reef and marine aquariums

Purigen selectively targets nitrogenous organic compounds produced by fish, corals, and invertebrates. Unlike ion-exchange resins that quickly saturate with metals and contaminants, Purigen ignores simple elemental compounds and has an extreme affinity for nitrogenous organics. It polishes the water for unparalleled clarity while increasing the redox potential. Purigen can be used in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high-flow area of a filter. Compatible with both saltwater and freshwater systems.

Instructions for use

  • Rinse before use
  • Place in a fine mesh bag (180 microns or less) such as the Seachem The Bag
  • Position to maximize water flow through the resin
  • Each 250 ml treats up to 1000 L (250 US gallons) for a maximum of six months.
  • Exhaustion is indicated by a pronounced color change to dark brown or black.

Regeneration

  • Soak in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container, in a well-ventilated area.
  • Use regular household bleach with 8.25% hypochlorite (perfume-free, dye-free, not splash-proof type)
  • Rinse thoroughly, then soak for 8 hours in a solution of 4 tablespoons of Seachem Prime per cup of water.
  • Rinse thoroughly. The original color and activity are restored.
  • Do not reuse if a chlorine odor is detectable — test with a chlorine test kit if in doubt

Manufacturer's precautions

  • Some amine-based protective coating products can permanently clog the Purigen and make regeneration difficult.
  • Seachem Prime, Safe, and StressGuard are NOT amine-based and are compatible with Purigen.
  • Store the Purigen in a little water between uses to prevent the beads from drying out and cracking.
  • Purigen does not affect general hardness (GH) or calcium/magnesium levels.

Available formats

  • 100 ml (sachet)
  • 250 ml
  • 500 ml
  • 1 L
  • 2 L
  • 4 L

Why choose Purigen from ReefSolution?

The 250 ml size is the standard for medium-sized reef aquariums. For optimal chemical filtration, combine Seachem Purigen with Seachem The Bag as a filter bag and Seachem MatrixCarbon to extend its lifespan. Use Seachem Prime during regeneration. For high nitrate levels despite the use of Purigen, add Seachem Matrix as a denitrification biomedia.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a 250ml bottle of Purigen last?

The 250 ml bottle treats up to 1000 L (250 US gallons) for a maximum of six months. The actual duration depends on the organic load of the aquarium. A color change from pale blonde to dark brown visually indicates depletion.

Is Purigen compatible with activated charcoal?

Yes. The two are compatible and complementary. Using activated charcoal with Purigen extends the lifespan of Purigen. However, Purigen is superior to charcoal for removing nitrogenous organic matter.

Which products are incompatible with Purigen?

Amine-based protective coating products can clog the Purigen and prevent regeneration. Seachem products (Prime, Safe, StressGuard) are amine-free and fully compatible.
