The Red Sea ReefRun 9000 is the most powerful of Red Sea's first-generation DC return pumps: 4,000 to 9,000 L/h (1,000 to 2,500 gph) with a maximum head of 7.0 m (23 ft), on just 30 to 95 W. It's the pump for large REEFER systems and installations where the sump sits far below the tank.

Important: the ReefRun Dual Controller is required

The official Red Sea manual is clear: first-generation ReefRun pumps can only be used when connected to a ReefRun Dual Controller, sold separately. One controller runs up to 2 devices — two ReefRun pumps, a REEFER DC Skimmer, or a combination of both — and brings them into the ReefBeat app over Wi-Fi: customized daily schedules, feed and maintenance scenarios, and automatic safety shutdown if the pump runs dry or the impeller stalls.

Maintenance, per the manufacturer

Clean regularly to remove organic and calcium carbonate deposits: pull the outlet chamber retainer ring, remove the impeller assembly, rinse and brush with a soft brush, and soak in a slightly acidic solution such as diluted vinegar if needed (remove O-rings and rubber feet first). The impeller shaft has a very strong magnet — hold it firmly and protect the ceramic bearing at the bottom of the chamber. Complete impeller (R35571), lower bearing and power supply (R33577) are available as spare parts.

ReefRun 9000 or ReefRun G2?

The 9000 is the natural choice to complete or replace a pump on a system already running a ReefRun Dual Controller. For a new installation, the ReefRun G2 runs standalone without a Dual Controller and uses less power per litre pumped: per the manufacturer's measurements at 125 cm, the G2 8000 delivers the same real-world flow as the 9000 with 27% less electricity. We'd rather tell you before you buy.
