Seachem Reef Zooplankton 500 mL — Liquid Zooplankton Corals LPS SPS
Available
Seachem Reef Zooplankton 500 mL is a concentrated liquid zooplankton composed of microscopic animal prey, formulated to feed LPS, SPS, and other carnivorous organisms in marine reef aquariums. While phytoplankton passively feeds filter feeders, zooplankton replicates the prey that corals actively hunt in nature—protein particles rich in essential fatty acids, directly assimilated by the polyps upon contact with seawater.
The 500 mL format is the standard size for medium to large reef aquariums, providing several months of autonomy at standard dosage.
Three Sources of Animal Prey
Reef Zooplankton contains a mixture of:
- Artemia (artemias): nauplius crustaceans very rich in protein and fatty acids — a natural prey universally consumed by LPS and SPS corals with broad polyps
- Rotifers: very small microorganisms (50–200 µm) — accessible to SPS corals with fine polyps and to young specimens unable to capture larger prey
- Euphausia Pacifica (Pacific krill): crustacean rich in omega-3 oils, astaxanthin and phospholipids — enhances coloration and provides high caloric density to support the rapid growth of calcifying tissues
The formula is enriched with astaxanthin — an antioxidant carotenoid that intensifies the natural pigments of corals — and ascorbic acid for product stabilization.
Who Benefits from Reef Zooplankton
- LPS corals: favia, blastomussa, lobophyllia, trachyphyllia, goniopora — their large polyps actively capture zooplankton particles in the water column
- SPS corals: Acropora, Montipora, Pocillopora — small rotifers are directly accessible to their tiny polyps
- Anemones and corallimorphs: discosoma, rhodactis — active consumers of animal prey
- Mixed reefs: an ideal complement to Reef Phytoplankton to cover the entire reef food spectrum
Seachem Official Usage Protocol
- Shake vigorously before each use — the product is particulate and settles at the bottom
- Dosage: 5 mL (1 capful) per 200 liters, twice a week or as needed
- Method: Add directly to the aquarium in areas with strong currents — do not target coral feeding , as this can overload and stress sensitive tissues.
- Storage: No refrigeration required — the product contains preservatives that maintain its integrity at room temperature
Zooplankton Reef + Phytoplankton Reef — The Ideal Combination
In a natural reef, plankton is a permanent mixture of plant and animal particles. Alternating Reef Phytoplankton (soft corals, filter feeders) and Reef Zooplankton (LPS, SPS, carnivores) replicates this diversity and ensures complete nutrient coverage for all reef inhabitants — without overloading the system with a single nutrient source.
Yield of the 500 mL format
- 200-litre aquarium: approximately 50 doses — more than 6 months at a rate of 2x/week
- 400-liter aquarium: approximately 3 months of use at standard dosage
