AI Prime Hanging Kit Black - Brushed Aluminum Ceiling Mount - AquaIllumination
Available
The AI Prime Hanging Kit suspends your Prime fixture from the ceiling, with nothing attached to the tank. AquaIllumination describes it as an elegant way to suspend your AI Prime above your tank. Black brushed aluminum, integrated ball joint to tilt and turn the light.
The light is not included.
What Suspension Gets You
Your tank rim stays completely clear. No arm, no clamp, nothing in the way when you reach into the water or run a magnet across the glass. On a clean rimless build, this is often the only mount that respects the look you paid good money to get.
The other advantage is practical: you pick the height. The higher the Prime sits, the wider the light spreads but the lower the PAR; the lower it sits, the harder it bites. With a suspension you tune that trade-off without buying a different part.
The Ball Joint
Same ball joint as the Tank Mount. It lets you tilt and turn the fixture once hung, aiming light where it's needed instead of letting it drop straight down. Also handy for moving glare out of your line of sight.
Assembly
AquaIllumination has an official video covering the Prime Hanging Kit assembly:
Specifications
- Material: brushed aluminum
- Color: black
- Adjustment: ball joint for tilt and rotation
- Mounting: cable suspension from the ceiling
- Compatibility: AI Prime 16HD Reef, Prime 16HD Freshwater, Prime Fuge
AquaIllumination doesn't publish the cable length for this kit. We're not going to invent a number: if your ceiling height matters, write us before ordering and we'll check the unit we have in the shop.
Before You Choose Suspension
One practical point the spec sheets skip: you have to drill your ceiling. That assumes you have solid structure above the tank, and that the aquarium isn't moving. If you're renting, or your tank might shift across the room, the Tank Mount or Flex Arm will give you less grief.
Hanging Kit, Tank Mount, or Flex Arm?
- Hanging Kit: the most discreet. Nothing on the tank, height of your choosing. Requires drilling the ceiling.
- Tank Mount: the sturdiest and most precise. Two adjustable arms and a ball joint, clamped to the rim.
- Flex Arm: the most adjustable. A gooseneck you bend by hand, clamped to the rim.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the AI Prime Hanging Kit work with the Prime Fuge?
Yes. The Prime Fuge, Prime 16HD Reef, and Prime 16HD Freshwater share the same 4.88 x 4.88in. housing, and all Prime mounting hardware fits all three. It won't fit Hydra or Blade fixtures though — those lines have their own systems.
How high should you hang an AI Prime above the water?
It's a trade-off between spread and intensity. AquaIllumination measures the Prime 16HD's peak PAR (100) at 24in. depth, over a 24 x 24in. spread. The higher you go, the wider the coverage and the lower the PAR; the lower you go, the harder it bites at center and the less it spreads. The advantage of suspension is being able to experiment.
Is the light included with the Hanging Kit?
No. This is the suspension kit only. The Prime sells separately — no Prime fixture ships with mounting hardware.
Do you have to drill the ceiling?
Yes. The kit fastens to the ceiling and the fixture hangs from the cables. Make sure you have solid structure above the tank. If you're renting or your aquarium might move, the Tank Mount or Flex Arm are simpler — they clamp to the tank and travel with it.
