Aqua Ultraviolet Replacement UV Lamps — Advantage 2000 and Classic Series

Maintain the efficiency of your Aqua Ultraviolet UV sterilizer with genuine manufacturer replacement lamps. Aqua Ultraviolet manufactures its own lamps to guarantee quality and longevity, offering the longest lifespan in the industry: 14 months of continuous use. The published flow rates for each sterilizer are calculated at 30,000 µw/cm² at the end of the lamp's life, meaning your sterilizer maintains its effectiveness throughout the lamp's lifespan without flow adjustments.

Over time, the UV lamp gradually loses its intensity even if it still appears to be lit visually. A common sign that it's time to replace the lamp: algae starts to grow faster on the glass, rocks, and surfaces of the aquarium. When changing the lamp, Aqua Ultraviolet also recommends cleaning or replacing the quartz sleeve, as mineral deposits reduce UV transmission over time.

When to Replace the UV Lamp

Aqua Ultraviolet recommends replacing the lamp after 14 months of continuous use, even if the lamp still appears to be working. The lamp may still emit visible light but may no longer produce enough 254 nm UV-C radiation to be effective. When replacing, clean or replace the quartz sleeve and lubricate the O-rings to ensure optimal sealing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Advantage 8W lamp compatible with a Classic 8W sterilizer?

No, Advantage and Classic lamps are not interchangeable despite having the same wattage. They have different sizes and connectors. Check the part number (PN) printed on your current lamp to order the correct replacement model.

How often should the Aqua Ultraviolet UV lamp be replaced?

The manufacturer recommends replacement after 14 months of continuous use. This is the longest lifespan in the industry. Even if the lamp still appears to be lit, its UV effectiveness decreases over time. Also replace the quartz sleeve once a year to maintain optimal UV transmission.

Should the quartz sleeve be replaced at the same time as the UV lamp?

Aqua Ultraviolet recommends cleaning or replacing the quartz sleeve with each lamp change. Mineral deposits, especially in saltwater, reduce UV penetration and decrease the sterilizer's effectiveness. Lubricate the O-rings upon reassembly to prevent leaks.
