Aquaforest Micro E 50 ml — heavy metal trace elements for mature SPS reefs

The Micro E 50 ml is Aquaforest's heavy-metal trace element complex, formulated exclusively for mature SPS reef tanks where coral biomass actively consumes these micronutrients. It delivers manganese, vanadium, zinc, nickel, iron, chromium, cobalt, and copper in a ratio matching the natural proportions useful to biomineralization, enzyme synthesis, and SPS pigmentation.

The 50 ml dropper bottle offers several months of autonomy on a mid-sized reef. Reserved for established tanks — Aquaforest specifies that on a new or young tank, adding Micro E is premature as long as the coral population isn't consuming these metals at a measurable rate.

Official composition

  • Manganese (Mn)
  • Vanadium (V)
  • Zinc (Zn)
  • Nickel (Ni)
  • Iron (Fe)
  • Chromium (Cr)
  • Cobalt (Co)
  • Copper (Cu) — safe dose for reef invertebrates

Aquaforest official dosing

  • Starting dose: 1 drop per 100 L (27 US gal) of tank water per day.
  • Adjustment: per tank maturity and coral stock.
  • New tank: don't dose Micro E — wait for the consuming biomass to mature.
  • Copper warning: copper is present at a low dose but stacking with other copper sources (medications) can turn toxic to shrimp and invertebrates.

When to use Micro E

  • Mature SPS tanks — hard corals in active growth for 6-12 months minimum.
  • After ICP validation — a confirmed metal deficit motivates dosing.
  • Darkened coral coloration — a heavy metal deficit can explain unusual pallor.

  • Iodum 50 ml — the iodine that complements Micro E on pigmentation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the copper in Micro E dangerous?

No at recommended doses — Aquaforest calibrates copper content to stay below reef invertebrate toxicity while supplying the useful metal input. The trap comes from stacking with other copper sources: antiparasitic meds, dissolved copper from old treatments, copper plumbing. On a tank historically treated with copper, avoid Micro E or run an ICP first.

How long does a 50 ml bottle last?

On a 200 L tank (2 drops/day), the 50 ml bottle covers about 2 years. On a 500 L tank (5 drops/day), about 300 days. The low dose makes Micro E one of the most cost-effective additives long-term.

Is Micro E compatible with Components 1+2+3+?

Yes — Components 1+2+3+ already ships some trace elements in its Ca/KH/Mg formulas, but at lower concentrations than Micro E. On a mature SPS tank with heavy consumption, adding Micro E usefully rounds out standard Balling. On a young tank, it's not needed.
