Aquaforest Zeo Mix 1000 ml — zeolite blend for ammonia and heavy metals
The Zeo Mix 1000 ml is Aquaforest's zeolite blend, formulated to capture ammonia, heavy metals, and dissolved organic compounds in mature SPS reef tanks. Its high adsorption capacity makes it a powerful tool — but also a product to reserve for experienced aquarists who can dose carefully to avoid stripping trace elements from the tank.
Used mainly in adapted zeovit method or as a support to an NP Pro probiotic regime, it complements other filter media (carbon, GFO) without replacing them.
Aquaforest official use
- Starting dose: 100 ml of Zeo Mix per 100 L of tank water.
- Useful range: 100-500 ml per 100 L based on biomass and protocol.
- Prior rinse: required with RO/DI water to remove fines.
- Flow through media: 300-500 L/h — too fast ejects fines, too slow limits exchange.
- Renewal: every 6 weeks.
Important caution
- High adsorption can quickly deplete the tank in trace elements.
- Reserved for experienced aquarists tracking parameters via ICP.
- Do not overdose — start at the low limit (100 ml/100 L) and ramp up gradually.
- Combine with Components Strong or Micro E to offset trace element losses.

Why choose Aquaforest at ReefSolution
- AF110 Media Reactor — the reactor sized to fluidize Zeo Mix on a mid-sized tank.
- Micro E 50 ml — trace elements to add to offset zeolite adsorption.
- NP Pro 10 ml — the probiotic method compatible with Zeo Mix for double NO3/PO4 action.
Frequently asked questions
Does Zeo Mix suit a young SPS tank?
Not recommended — young tanks aren't ready to handle the product's strong adsorption capacity, which risks stripping essential nutrients before a consuming biomass is established. Reserve Zeo Mix for mature tanks (12+ months) with dense coral population.
How long does Zeo Mix stay active?
Aquaforest recommends renewal every 6 weeks. Beyond that, adsorption capacity saturates and the media stops delivering measurable effect. An ICP test can confirm saturation via the return-to-normal of trace elements consumed early in treatment.
Can Zeo Mix replace GFO?
Partially — Zeo Mix has marginal impact on PO4 and mainly acts on NH3 and heavy metals, while GFO specifically targets phosphate. On an SPS tank with stable PO4, Zeo Mix suffices; on a chronically high-PO4 tank, pair it with GFO or Phosphate Minus.
