Brightwell MicroBacter Purple M – PNSB Marine Bacteria for Nutrient Reduction
Available
PNSB marine bacteria for advanced nutrient reduction in reef aquariums
Brightwell MicroBacter Purple M is a unique blend of purple non-sulfur marine bacteria (PNSB) , including Rhodopseudomonas palustris, designed to consume unwanted nutrients and improve overall water quality in marine and reef aquariums.
⚠️ The solution is intentionally not purple in the bottle. It appears beige or cream because the bacteria are cultivated under oxygenated conditions to maximize their stability and shelf life.
🧠 What MicroBacter Purple M does
- Accelerates nitrification and denitrification
- Breaks down organic waste and debris
- Reduces ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and phosphates
- Reduces hydrogen sulfide production
- Improves water clarity
- Promotes a stable microbiome
- Increases bacterioplankton (food source for corals)
- Contributes to the health of fish and corals
Suitable for marine and reef aquariums wishing to sustainably reduce dissolved nutrients.
🔬 Technical context
Rhodopseudomonas palustris is a metabolically versatile bacterium.
- In an oxygenated environment → beige/cream color
- In an illuminated anoxic zone → production of the violet pigment
Brightwell intentionally maintains the strain in an oxygenated form in order to:
- To improve its stability
- To reduce stress during the introduction
- To significantly increase shelf life
- To ensure a high viable concentration
Once introduced into oxygen-poor areas (substrate, deep zones), the bacterium can naturally activate its pigmented form.
📦 Available formats
- 250 ml
- 500 ml
- 1 L
🧪 Official instructions
Shake well before use.
- Do not add to pump inlets
- Clean all pipettes before placing them back in the bottle to avoid contamination
- Ideally, add to the external biological filtration system.
- Deactivate skimmer and UV for 24 hours after adding
🔹 Medium or high nutrient systems
Add 1.25 ml per US gallon (3.78 L) per week for the first two weeks.
Then switch to the "low nutrient" dosage if improvement is visible.
🔹 Stable, low-nutrient systems
Add :
-
5 ml per 50 US gallons (≈189 L) once a week
OR -
1 ml per 50 US gallons per day
OR - 1 ml per 25 US gallons every two days
The dose can be reduced by up to 50% if the balance is maintained.
🔄 During an increase in biological load
1 ml per 50 US gallons per day for 1 week
Then return to the standard dosage.
🔗 Recommended Synergy
Works best with:
- High-surface bacterial support (e.g., Xport, Lattice)
- Suitable carbon source (e.g., Reef BioFuel, Katalyst)
🧊 Conservation
- Does not require refrigeration
- Store at room temperature, in moderate light, to maintain activity and shelf life.
