Red Sea ReefMat — Sump Modification Kit with Silicone Blades and Scraper for Reefer Sumps
Available
The Red Sea Sump Modification Kit is the official tool kit built to get a REEFER sump ready for a ReefMat roller filter: removing internal sump components, cutting silicone and taking out glass panels cleanly, with blades designed for exactly this job.
Why special blades?
The sock holders in first-generation REEFER sumps are sealed with a thin layer of silicone. A regular utility blade is too thick to get into those tight joints: Red Sea supplies ultra-thin, flexible blades that slip right in, plus a scraper to remove excess silicone for a clean finish. Every part in the kit is suitable for use in saltwater.
Official kit contents (part R35475)
- 1 utility blade handle with a regular snap blade
- 2 spare 0.1 mm silicone blades
- 2 spare 0.15 mm silicone blades
- 1 small silicone scraper cleaning tool
Red Sea recommends wearing gloves and safety glasses while working.
When do you need it?
Per the official compatibility chart, REEFER G3, G2+ and G2 systems take the ReefMat 500 and ReefMat 1200 plug & play. It's on first-generation REEFER systems (V1/V3) that the sock holders must come out of the sump — and that's exactly the job this kit exists for. The ReefMat 250 benefits from the same tools on models that need modification.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the Sump Modification Kit to install my ReefMat?
Not if your Reefer is a plug & play compatible G3, G2+ or G2. The kit becomes necessary on first-generation REEFER systems, where the silicone-sealed sock holders must be removed before the filter goes in.
What's the difference between the 0.1 mm and 0.15 mm blades?
They are two thicknesses of flexible silicone blades, supplied in pairs: Red Sea includes both to suit the joints in your sump. The manufacturer publishes no more detailed usage rule — start with the thinner blade in the tightest joints.
Can I do the modification without draining my sump?
Red Sea designed the kit to work directly in the sump. Wear gloves and safety glasses, clear silicone scraps as you go, and dry-fit the ReefMat before bringing the system back online.
