Reef Casa Bacteria Hotel Blocks — Biomedia 4 Biofiltration Blocks Equivalent to 20 lbs of Live Rock - Reef Casa

$20.00

Available

The Reef Casa Bacteria Hotel Blocks are ultra-porous biomedia blocks designed to maximize biological filtration in reef aquariums. Each block offers a colonization surface equivalent to 5 pounds of live rock, allowing denitrifying bacteria to effectively reduce nitrates and phosphates. Each box contains 4 blocks (~70 x 70 mm each) for a total surface area equivalent to 20 pounds of live rock. Made from inert, phosphate-free materials, Bacteria Hotel Blocks fit into the rear filter chambers of Reef Casa aquariums or directly into a sump.

Key Benefits

  • Massive Surface Area: Each block replaces the equivalent of 5 pounds of live rock — 4 blocks per box = 20 pounds of bacterial colonization surface.
  • Inert Material: Does not release phosphates and does not alter water chemistry. Safe for sensitive corals and invertebrates.
  • Nutrient Reduction: Denitrifying bacteria colonize pores and reduce nitrates and phosphates for crystal clear water.
  • Compact Size: ~70 x 70 mm blocks that easily fit into the rear filter chambers of Reef Casa all-in-one aquariums.
  • Long-lasting: Replace every 4 to 6 months for optimal results.
  • Versatile: Compatible with all-in-one aquariums and sump systems.

Instructions for Use

Gently rinse Bacteria Hotel blocks under saltwater to remove loose pieces. Place them in the rear filter chamber of your Reef Casa aquarium, after the activated carbon. If using a sump, place the blocks in an area of high water flow. Allow 2 weeks for bacteria to colonize the blocks and begin reducing nutrients. For best results, use in combination with Reef Casa Life Bacteria during initial setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should Bacteria Hotel Blocks be replaced?

Reef Casa recommends replacing blocks every 4 to 6 months for optimal results. Over time, pores become clogged with organic waste and bacterial colonization capacity decreases. When replacing, change half the blocks at a time to preserve some of the established bacterial colony.

Do Bacteria Hotel Blocks replace live rock?

No. The blocks complement live rock by adding an additional surface for bacterial colonization in the rear filter chamber. They do not replace live rock in the display area, which also serves as an aquascape structure and coral support. Each block offers a surface area equivalent to 5 pounds of live rock for biofiltration only.

How many blocks do I need for my aquarium?

One box of 4 blocks (equivalent to 20 pounds of live rock) is suitable for aquariums up to 25 gallons. For larger aquariums with a sump, use 2 or more boxes depending on the volume. Place the blocks in an area of high flow to maximize bacterial colonization.
