pH Alert — Continuous pH Sensor for Fresh Water 5.4–8.0 | Seachem
Available
The Seachem pH Alert is an innovative color-changing sensor that continuously monitors pH in freshwater aquariums. The sensor reversibly changes color—from yellow to orange to red—to indicate pH variations between 5.4 and 8.0. No test kits, chemicals, or procedures are required: simply compare the sensor's color to the included color wheel. It lasts up to four times longer than competing products. For freshwater use only.
Main advantages
- Continuous 24/7 pH monitoring — 10-minute response time after initial equilibration
- pH detection range 5.4 to 8.0 — reading by reversible color change
- Lasts up to 4 times longer than competing products (3 to 6 months)
- Compact size 1.5" x 2.5" — discreet and unobstructive in the aquarium
- No test kit, chemical or procedure required — instant visual reading
- Exclusive Seachem sensor technology
Sensor reading
Place the pH Alert visibly in the aquarium or filter and compare the sensor's color to the corresponding color wheel on the packaging. The sensor changes from yellow (low pH) to orange (neutral pH) to red (high pH) to indicate pH levels between 5.4 and 8.0. Upon initial setup, the response time is approximately 30 minutes. Afterward, pH changes are displayed within 10 minutes.
Use in aquariums
The pH Alert is designed for freshwater use only. It is ideal for freshwater aquariums, planted tanks, and cichlid tanks. For aquarists who also maintain freshwater aquariums in addition to their reef tank, the pH Alert provides continuous passive monitoring without the need for manual testing. Combine it with the Seachem Ammonia Alert for comprehensive monitoring of both critical parameters.
Sensor maintenance
- No maintenance is required beyond cleaning algae with a soft, clean material.
- Do not touch the sensor with your fingers — skin oils can damage it.
- Do not use bleach, soap, detergents, or hard objects to clean
- Some dye-based medications can discolor the sensor
- Sensitivity improves with age if the sensor remains moist
- Drying does not permanently damage the unit
- Read under natural light or daylight-simulating light for maximum sensitivity
Replacement
Sensor depletion is indicated by visible color fading or discoloration. Once depleted, replace the pH Alert. Its lifespan is 3 to 6 months depending on conditions, up to 4 times longer than competing products.
Why choose pH Alert from ReefSolution?
The pH Alert is an ideal passive monitoring tool for freshwater aquariums. For comprehensive monitoring, combine it with the Seachem Ammonia Alert or choose the Seachem One Year Alert Combo, which includes both sensors. To adjust the pH, use the Seachem Neutral Regulator, the Seachem Acid Buffer, or the Seachem Alkaline Buffer, depending on your needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does pH Alert work in seawater?
No. The pH Alert is designed for freshwater only, with a detection range of 5.4 to 8.0. To monitor pH in seawater, use a marine pH test such as the Salifert pH Test Kit or a digital pH monitor.
How long does the pH Alert last?
From 3 to 6 months depending on conditions, which is up to 4 times longer than competing products. Depletion is indicated by a visible fading of the sensor's color.
Does pH Alert replace conventional pH tests?
The pH Alert offers convenient continuous monitoring to quickly detect pH variations. For precise spot measurements, a pH drop or digital test kit is still recommended as a complement.
