Seachem Purigen 500 ml résine filtration organique aquarium récifal

Purigen 500 ml — Bulk Organic Resin 500% More Effective | Seachem

$52.99

Available

Seachem Purigen 500 ml is a bulk (not pre-bagged) macro-porous synthetic adsorption resin, offering twice the capacity of the 250 ml format. This unique polymer removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that surpasses all competing products by more than 500%. The 500 ml format treats up to 2000 L (500 US gallons) for up to six months, making it an economical choice for large reef aquariums or multiple systems.

Main advantages

  • Organic adsorption capacity exceeding that of competing products by more than 500%
  • 500 ml treats up to 2000 L (500 US gallons) for a maximum duration of six months
  • Spherical and macro-reticular polymer — increased usable surface area compared to standard resins
  • Economical bulk format — divisible into several portions as needed
  • Regenerable with bleach — visual indicator of depletion (light blonde → dark brown)

Use in reef and marine aquariums

Purigen is specifically designed as an organic recovery resin, selectively targeting nitrogenous organic waste produced by fish, corals, and invertebrates. Unlike ion-exchange resins that saturate quickly, Purigen ignores simple elemental compounds and has an extreme affinity for nitrogenous organics. It controls ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates at the source, polishes the water for unparalleled clarity, and significantly increases the redox potential, with minimal impact on trace elements. Suitable for both saltwater and freshwater environments.

Instructions for use

  • Rinse before use
  • The 500 ml size is loose-fill — place the desired amount in a fine mesh bag (180 microns or less) such as the Seachem The Bag
  • Position in a cartridge filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high-flow area
  • Each 250 ml treats up to 1000 L (250 US gallons) for a maximum of six months.
  • Exhaustion is indicated by a pronounced color change to dark brown or black.

Regeneration

  • Soak in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container, in a well-ventilated area.
  • Use regular household bleach with 8.25% hypochlorite (perfume-free, dye-free, not splash-proof type)
  • Rinse thoroughly, then soak for 8 hours in a solution of 4 tablespoons of Seachem Prime per cup of water.
  • Rinse thoroughly. The original color and activity are restored.
  • Do not reuse if a chlorine odor is detectable — test with a chlorine test kit if in doubt

Manufacturer's precautions

  • Some amine-based protective coating products can permanently clog the Purigen and make regeneration difficult.
  • Seachem Prime, Safe, and StressGuard are NOT amine-based and are compatible with Purigen.
  • Store the Purigen in a little water between uses to prevent the beads from drying out and cracking.
  • Purigen does not affect general hardness (GH) or calcium/magnesium levels.

Why choose Purigen from ReefSolution?

The 500ml bulk format is the economical choice for aquarists who want to divide the resin into portions or treat a large system. For optimal use, place the Purigen in the Seachem The Bag and combine it with Seachem MatrixCarbon to extend its lifespan. Use Seachem Prime during regeneration. For high nitrates despite the use of Purigen, add Seachem Matrix as a denitrification biomedia.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 500ml format loose or pre-packaged?

The 500ml format is sold loose. A fine mesh filter bag (180 microns or less) is required, such as the Seachem The Bag. This allows you to divide the resin into portions suitable for your system.

How long does Purigen 500 ml last?

The 500 ml bottle treats up to 2000 L (500 US gallons) for a maximum of six months. The actual duration varies depending on the organic load of the aquarium. A change in color to dark brown visually indicates depletion.

How many times can the Purigen be regenerated?

Purigen can be regenerated many times as long as the original color is restored after treatment with bleach and Prime. Avoid amine-based products, which permanently clog the resin and prevent regeneration.
