Reef Carbonate 500 ml — KH Alkalinity Supplement

$14.99

Available

Seachem Reef Carbonate is a concentrated liquid alkalinity supplement at 4000 meq/L, formulated with an optimized blend of carbonate and bicarbonate salts to restore and maintain alkalinity in reef aquariums. Unlike competing products based on simple sodium bicarbonate, this formula produces a pK of 9.0 in seawater, promoting natural pH stabilization around 8.3–8.4.

Main advantages

  • High concentration of 4000 meq/L — each mL provides a minimum of 4 meq of alkalinity
  • Carbonate and bicarbonate mixture with a pK of 9.0 for pH stabilization at 8.3–8.4
  • Does not deplete calcium, magnesium, or strontium when used as directed
  • Compatible with skimmers and cartridge filters — no equipment to switch off during dosing

Seachem Reef Carbonate Dosage

  • Beginner: 1 capful (5 ml) per 80 L (20 US gallons), twice a week. Dilute in a glass of soft water before adding. Check alkalinity every 2 weeks.
  • Advanced: Dose until reaching 4–5 meq/L. Each 5 ml dose per 80 L increases alkalinity by 0.25 meq/L. Do not exceed 20 ml per 80 L per day.
  • Expert: determine the consumption rate and configure a continuous drip. Formula: m = v × a ÷ 4 (m = ml of product, v = volume in liters, a = increase in meq/L).

Use in reef aquariums

Alkalinity is essential for the growth of all corals. Seachem recommends maintaining alkalinity between 3 and 6 meq/L (8–17 dKH), never falling below 2 meq/L. Pour gradually near a strong current. Do not add to the sump or an area with low circulation. Do not mix directly with a calcium, magnesium, or strontium supplement—wait at least 30 minutes between doses or alternate days.

Why choose Reef Carbonate from ReefSolution?

For a complete reef supplementation program, combine Reef Carbonate with Seachem Reef Advantage Calcium for calcium and Seachem Reef Complete for a liquid ionic approach. Monitor your parameters with the Salifert KH/Alk Test Kit or the Hanna Checker Alkalinity for precise dosing. The equivalent powder version is Seachem Reef Builder.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Seachem Reef Carbonate and Reef Builder?

Reef Builder is the powdered version of Reef Carbonate. Both products produce the same results. Reef Carbonate uses a slightly different salt blend to maximize its concentration in liquid form.

Should the skimmer be switched off to dose the Reef Carbonate?

No. According to Seachem, the skimmer and cartridge filters can remain in operation during dosing without affecting the product's effectiveness.

How to maintain stable alkalinity in a reef aquarium with SPS corals?

Test the alkalinity regularly and dose the Reef Carbonate according to your aquarium's consumption rate. For tanks with high demand, consider a continuous drip or a dosing pump for optimal stability.
